I became interested in photography at an early age and started developing old family black & white pictures in a dark room when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I used to love watching the image appear on the paper whilst it was swimming in a tray of chemicals. It was like magic!
One minute it would be a blank piece of glossy paper and the next, there would be some old image of someone I only barely knew.
At around 14 or 15 I got my first real camera, an Olympus EE-3. I remember my father saying it would save him money on film as it was a half frame camera. I guess he forgot that half the amount of film still meant twice the amount of pictures to develop!
I had that camera all through my teenage years and through most of my army service until one day, during a live fire exercise I forgot it was in the front pouch of my ammo belt and I landed on it pretty hard breaking the lens.
Since then I have stuck with Nikon cameras and lenses. Today I carry my D2x and F5 almost wherever I go. I love the freedom of just shooting in digital and then picking out the best shots, but from time to time, I enjoy the challenge of shooting on film, not knowing quite what I’ve got until the film is developed.
I’ll shoot almost anything, but I enjoy shooting sports the most. It’s something about trying to tell a story with movement in a static 2 dimensional medium that keeps my interest peaked. And I love playing with light and night photography too.
I’ll be evolving the site as time goes on, so keep coming back… You never know what might appear next.
